instruments of a young artist (original)
12" x 16" x 0.5” acrylic on stretched canvas. framed.
This work was inspired by objects of my Greek-American upbringing and mythological symbols that represent the intangible instruments I use when making art. Laurels- a symbol of honor, representing the recognition of work, a short resting place of accomplishment between projects. Pomegranate- a symbol of Persephone, representing the constant death and rebirth of the creative process, and the fertility of the mind. Daffodils- a symbol of Narcissus, representing the confidence (or is it delusion?) that is neccesary to put art out into the world. Wine- a symbol of Dionysus, representing the merriment of youth and self expression. Butter, Lemon, Olives- commonly used ingredients in greek cooking, and commonly used objects in my still life paintings. Essential and dependable.
